When most people think of fast food, they tend to think of unhealthy food. Some people try to avoid fast food chains due to their reputations and lack of healthy options, but others find themselves frequenting the establishments on a regular basis due to their convenience and healthy fast food choices.
Eating at fast food chains doesn’t always have to include thousands of calories. In fact, there are plenty of healthy options available at fast food chains and we’re not referring to salads.
McDonald’s Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich
While McDonald’s does have some food items that contain a ton of calories and fat, they also have a few healthier options. The Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich without mayo will provide you with 370 calories and 4.5 grams of fat. It’s important to keep in mind that this is only for the sandwich, so if you want a side and a drink, choose water and one of the healthier side options, such as yogurt or apple slices.
Burger King’s BK Veggie Burger
Some people are skeptical of the veggie burgers at fast food restaurants, but at Burger King it’s the healthiest option. A BK Veggie Burger without mayo contains 340 calories and 8 grams of fat, but it is also cholesterol free, making it that much more healthier for you. Pair it with apple fries and water, and you have yourself a healthy and delicious meal.
Taco Bell’s Fresco Style Ranchero Chicken Soft Taco
Ordering food Fresco Style from Taco Bell removes the cheese and sauce on regular menu items and replaces it with tomatoes, cilantro and onions, which is a much healthier option. The Fresco Style Ranchero Chicken Soft Taco contains 170 calories and 4 grams of fat, and the Fresco Crunchy Taco contains 150 calories and 8 grams of fat, but contains much less sodium than the Fresco Chicken.
Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Honey BBQ Sandwich and Tender Roast Sandwich
If you’re craving chicken, you may be worried that the items on KFC’s menu are too battered and deep fried for your health, but Kentucky Fried Chicken does have two tasty and healthy options. The Honey BBQ Sandwich contains 280 calories and 3.5 grams of fat while the Tender Roast Sandwich without sauce contains 300 calories and 4.5 grams of fat.
Carl’s Jr. Charbroiled BBQ Sandwich
Choosing chicken at Carl’s Jr is the safest way to go. The Charbroiled BBQ Sandwich contains 360 calories and 4.5 grams of fat, which is much, much smaller than what you’ll find inside one of their monstrous burgers.
So before you give up on fast food chains altogether, know that if you had to eat at one, there are plenty of healthy options to choose from that don’t involve salads. Remember that in most cases, chicken is always going to be healthier than beef or other red meats. Removing mayo saves you from added fats and calories, and steering clear of cheese is going to make food items healthier too. If you want sides and drinks, water or unsweetened iced tea is the safest bet, and try and choose the healthiest side option, such as fruits, vegetables and even salads.
